Baruti – Greek for gunpowder

A word used to describe something that has bite or edge. Each fragrance is like a perfume explosion on the skin. The perfumes are strong, memorable and intense! Based in The Netherlands, BARUTI was born out of love for the art of perfumery (2015). Our signature style is combining creativity with wearability. We strive to create scents that intrigue, move and inspire people.

Who we are

Spyros Drosopoulos (Ph.D.) – is the perfumer and founder of the brand. Spyros is self taught in the craft of perfumery. He writes the formulas and evaluates them (with his team). As a researcher and academic, Spyros has always felt at ease in a laboratory environment. Experimentation is his second nature.

Marianna Mitsi (M.Sc.) –  is the lab assistant and trainee perfumer. She blends the formulas, compounds the oils, maintains the lab in supreme condition and soon you will also see formulations from her hand.

How we do it

At BARUTI we combine the free spirit of an artisanal brand with the know-how of the big companies and we have fun doing what we do! We select the most interesting materials, and combine them in unique and novel ways to bring you distinct fragrance compositions. The inspiration can come from many things, real or imagined, but it always boils down to trying to capture a particular feeling and translating it into the language of scent. Sometimes a formula takes a few weeks to complete and sometimes it takes several years before we’re truly happy with the result.

BARUTI is available in niche perfumeries and concept stores all around the world. To get the details of points of sale closest to you, please contact us.

Alternatively, feel free to explore our line at your own pace from wherever you may be in the world by ordering one of our discovery sets.

The Planet

At BARUTI we care about giving you the best possible product we can, but we care even more about doing that in a way that keeps our eco footprint to a minimum. From the materials we use, our packaging and distribution channels, everything is designed with the planet in mind. In addition, we give back to nature and help raise awareness about environmental issues. We actively collaborate and donate a part of our turnover to The Red List Project.

BARUTI is also a sponsor of the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam and has adopted their Magnolia Denudata Desr. tree.

Demystifying perfumery

We believe that sharing is growing! Spyros teaches 2-3 times a year, the week intensive perfumery class at the Institute for Art and Olfaction www.artandolfaction.com and trains the next generation of perfumers (like Marianna). We also offer intern positions to students to train with us.
